Judith D. Steele Elementary School is pleased to announce a preschool opportunity for children within our community that are zoned for Steele ES school.  We are looking for four-year-old candidates to fill our Pre-K class. Candidates must be four years old on or before August 7, 2023 and not be eligible for kindergarten in the 2023-2024 school year.

This unique experience will provide age appropriate preschool instruction for the children, while being included in a learning environment that includes preschool students with disabilities.  This opportunity will enable your child to receive valuable preschool instruction, as well as provide the students with disabilities age appropriate role models.  

We are looking for children who have age appropriate language, social and behavior skills. The children must be toilet trained and must have demonstrated that they are able to be away from home and separate from their caregiver with ease.  Parents will be required to transport their child to and from school and ensure that consistent attendance occurs, with the exception of illness.  The team reserves the right to dismiss your child as a peer model, if your child displays inappropriate behaviors, including, but not limited to; excessive crying, tantrums, aggressive behavior, inability to separate from parent and if they are not independently toilet trained.

At this time, the program will be offered Monday-Thursday (no students on Friday) from 9:00 – 11:30 (AM session) and 12:30 – 3:00 (PM session).  Enrollment is limited in an effort to maintain an appropriate class size.

Students that meet the requirements will be selected for this Pre-K opportunity through a lottery system that may include completing a short small group trial session at school.  Return this completed Google Form no later than Monday, April 3, 2023 to ensure your child is included in the 2023-2024 Pre-K Typical Peer selection process.  You will be contacted the week of April 11, 2023 via telephone or email, if your child has been selected to participate in the small group trial session.  Only candidates selected will be contacted.  All others will be placed on a wait list.  If your child is selected, caregivers will be required to present all requested documents to the office & complete the registration process when requested or the spot will be forfeited to someone on the waiting list.
